Berence Helal Hanna

This is a family facing a severe financial and legal crisis that has deeply disrupted their daily lives and their children's education.
The husband is currently entangled in two legal cases — one related to unpaid cheques and another concerning unauthorised construction. If a judgment is issued against him, the family fears he may face permanent or indefinite imprisonment. The outstanding debt amounts to over 100,000 Egyptian pounds, with six instalments still remaining. When the husband was first arrested, the wife signed cheques in her own name in an effort to secure his release, placing her at personal legal and financial risk as well.
The burden of managing the household and debt repayment has fallen entirely on the mother. The children's education has been severely affected. The eldest daughter can no longer attend private tutoring lessons, and the family could not afford to buy her a school bag at the start of the current academic year. Their son, Abanoub, dropped out of school after Year 5 and has not returned.
The family's day-to-day existence is a struggle, with the mother focused primarily on keeping food on the table.
